Mark Hix’s Restaurant
Mark Hix is a cool British restaurateur, but he’s also a dad who makes sure his restaurant are friendly to families and have times when kids eat for free. His two chicken and steak restaurants, Tramshed and Hix Bankside, which mostly only serve chicken and steak, are great for families.
At Tramshed, you can eat chicken or steak in a building that used to be a tram generator while sitting with your kids in front of a famous Damien Hirst installation. Visiting the Bankside area? Near Borough Market and Shakespeare’s Globe, at a place called Hixter, he has the same chicken and steak menu and options for kids, like a quarter roast chicken or a mini chateaubriand.
All year long, kids eat for free from 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 6 p.m. on weekends.
Pricing:
Prices are about the same at both places. Even the kids’ menu, which costs about £7 ($9), is the same when kids don’t eat for free. Evening entrees cost about £16 ($21), and side dishes cost extra.
Wahaca
There are 16 places in London, such as Covent Garden, Oxford Street, Shoreditch, South Bank, and Islington, where you can find it.
Old Street, Waterloo, Covent Garden, and Oxford Street With 16 locations in London, you can’t be too far from a Wahaca, no matter where you stay. You may be able to get Mexican food where you live, but Wahaca is London’s favorite sit-down Mexican restaurant that is great for kids.
The high chairs are brightly colored, the staff is friendly, and the music is loud enough to drown out your kids but not too loud to bother anyone. Near the Angel tube stop, the Islington location has a foosball table where kids can play while they wait for their food or while you catch up with your partner over a margarita.
The South Bank location comprises eight recycled shipping containers set up over two floors with views of the Thames.
Pricing:
The $5.75 ($7.50) children’s menu comes with a drink. The main dish is either a quesadilla with your choice of fillings or “build your own tacos” with a soft tortilla, cheese, lettuce, salsa, meat or vegetable filling, and guacamole on the side. You may purchase a serving of ice cream or sorbet as dessert for an additional £1.50.
Most main dishes cost about £12, and tasting plates start at £15 ($19.50) per person. There are also many gluten-free and vegan options at the restaurant.

The Goat
At the Goat, parents can eat at their table while their kids eat in another room. How? “The Sunday Kids’ Club.” Parents may peek in as the children’s entertainer works in a room where bottomless brunch is served. Erin Philips, an American mother from Charleston living in West London, told TPG Family about The Goat. She said, “It’s the best.” “Book ahead of time.”
On Sundays between noon and 2 p.m., Froogle Parties puts on a show for kids with a different theme, like Vikings or Hawaiian puppets.
Pricing:
Bottomless brunch costs £40 ($52) for an adult, which includes drinks and tips. The menu for kids costs £6.50 ($8.50).
Bread Street Kitchen
This restaurant is for you if you like Gordon Ramsey and have kids. Bread Street Kitchen is in a modern shopping building across from St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is big and industrial, but it is also good for kids. Gordon is known sometimes to show up when he is in town.
Free two-course meals are provided for kids under 12 from a menu created by Tilly Ramsay, Ramsay’s daughter.
The restaurant also has a family brunch and “pizza masterclass” on certain Sundays, where kids can learn how to make pizza while their parents eat and drink Champagne. Details are on the website, and you can book ahead.
Classic Pubs
Carrie Ann Roberts, the owner of the fashion brand Mre Soeur and a podcaster, suggests The Gun in Hackney, East London, which was built in 1860. Unlike many bars in the United States, pubs usually let kids in.
Carrie told TPG Family, I love pubs because they are so laid-back, friendly, and charming. She said there is no pressure or telling the kids to be quiet. Pubs have more personality, and that’s just how we do things. All of us grew up in pubs, right? Then again, maybe it’s just me.
After traveling so far to get to England, you have every right to relax, have a beer, and spend a day at the pub with your kids eating fish and chips or a typical Sunday roast.
